He does want me to put a rack and fenders on it, I need to look and see what might be available. Has multiple eyelets at the rear dropouts, but up above, only a hole on the brake bridge. Maybe a Tubus Fly!

Hardy - People are amazed my daughters will ride 20-30 km in a day and even more amazed to find we don't spend much time using sidewalks but rather, use the bike paths, MUTs, and take routes down quiet streets.

Perhaps you need to tell the boy that you are going somewhere really fun and that if he wants to go he will have to ride down that hill...

I think that's the answer, next time he saves up change for another bionicle, he's riding there on his own, no trail-a-bike.

SAome great points, give him a reason, a sense of anticipation as to how exciting it will be. Motivation is a wonderful thing and SixtyFiver hit it right on.

Just had to add an update...

The littlest butterfly wants studded tyres on her bike... my oldest daughter thinks we're insane.

You seem to have answered the question in your original post

Been a time since I been about, but that is great news that things are progressing for you there. Studded tires for the season or for the sake of having them?

For the season... 'tis winter here in Canuckistan and one could probably use skates instead of shoes.

No Monster

No Monster, but perhaps a future pro?
A really great story and kudos to you for supporting her.
Better start training harder...or your "monster" might eat you alive out on the trails!

Ok sir, I am super jealous. My kids want nothing to do with cycling with me since they can't out do me, . My oldest used to ride with me a couple of years ago, but when he turn 16, that was enough of riding with the fat man in spandex. They are very cute and enjoy this time, cause it goes by quick, and before you know it, they will be grown and married with their own kids.

And then Grandpa Sixty will have to start all over again with teaching more kids how to ride...

I can look forward to that.
