Cycling & Finding Love...

I enjoy cycling as an important part of who I am as a person, but the problem is that I have the hardest time finding a lady who shares the same interest that I do (except for my sympathetic younger sister that likes Electra and Jorg & Olif). I try to paint romancing pictures with cycling, but it seems like most women only see embarassing sweat, steep hills, hostile traffic, complicated gearing systems and tight lycra pants (not to knock the pants, they're comfy). There is an aesthetic I find in cycling that I want to communicate, and with the right response I could find more common ground for a relationship. How do I do this?

Why not look for a "riding partner" in one of these places (or do your own online search).

I met my guy on a bike ride. Go on group rides (but don't go soley for picking up chicks. We can tell). Do what you enjoy, and keep your eyes open.

Lot's of good cycling clubs have single ladies in them. Go on those rides.

Our church has bike rides.

Around here, one might go to Confluence Park, where dozens (no, scores) of bicyclists hang out on a Saturday morning. Have some coffee at Starbucks and keep your eyes open.

I think you're in the wrong part of the state! lol. I"m having the same problem; trying to find a compatible guy that's into cycling like I am. Most in my age range are already married in my town. I pass plenty on fellas on the road, and I usually put in about 100 miles on the weekend, but that's a 3 second wave and smile then....gone. Maybe I just need to get faster? Or practice my TT 180 turn??

I long for a [female] riding companion, but it seems that they're just not available at the moment. My current circle of lady friends/acquaintances may be too narrow for such a demand. The responses for cycling I receive are all good, but superficial compliments and questions is just hope deferred. Most are curious, many are intrigued, some are inspired, but none are interested. What else can be done to gain a cycling companion? How much can cycling really factor in all these dealings for love?

Bikes I'd like to consider buying as a pair:

Electra Amsterdam Collection:

Jorg and Olif:

Pashley:

Flying Pigeon (not the official site):

Lycra and the bikes you posted don't seem a good aesthetic, but too each their own .

Your kind of bikes aren't what you'd typically see an an organized ride. There are some more "laid back" celebration type rides where you can find them but in general, cyclists riding longer distances will be on something built for speed and distance. Some hybrids and comforts, but mostly road and MTBs. Given your lifestyle (a guess from your name and aesthetics), I'd think you'd have better chances in the art arena, books, art, literature, etc.

Personally, I have neither had nor seen good luck in finding mates through cycling. You can find plenty of threads asking how do I get my wife/gf/etc. into cycling, but not alot asking how to get my husband/bf/etc. into cycling. I have not seen any of the latter, but they may exist.

Good Luck!

Never give up!

9 years ago, my husband and I met during an AIDS ride (a 4 day cycling event riding from Raleigh North Carolina to DC). So this is his advice......be in good shape, get a fast bike, find the cutest girl you can on a slower bike, ride with her, and she won't be able to get away It was an amazing experience and we've been together ever since.
So, I recommend participating in an event similar to the one we did because you really do meet incredible people....and you may just be as lucky as we were and find that special someone who shares your love of cycling.
