Cheap bikes for Florida

Hi all,

My wife and I are heading to Florida next month (from the UK) and were thinking about doing some bike riding. We're staying on the gulf coast near St Pete's beach.

So I have two questions:

1. Ideas for where we can pick up two cheap bikes that we can use and abuse for two weeks and then leave behind i.e. under $50 each (we figured that hiring for two weeks would be stupid)

2. What are the road laws in Florida around cycling? If we're on a road on the coast (e.g. Gulf Blvd) should we be on the roads or stick to the sidewalks?

Cheers, Chris

If you are staying near the beach you can usually find bike rentals. By hiring do you mean renting? As for roads or sidewalks just do what everybody else is doing where you are. Road rules do apply when on the road. You may be able to find a resale or pawn shop nearby that had used bikes.

I looked at the price of renting a bike in that area and they were 65 dollars a week. Probrably can find something cheaper and maybe get a deal on renting 2.

The seller, of this bike, David , is a local guy who buys & sells bikes in the Tampa. He will probably be able to help you. Reply to his post with your requests.

Buy two at Wal-Mart and then return them the day before you leave.
