Los Angeles River Bike Path Expansion

Hey everyone,
I am currently working on a project to expand the existing bike path along the Los Angeles River. I myself am an avid rider and know what is needed, but I am interested to see what other people feel are necessary for bike paths. ie. rest stops, multiple paths for pedestrians and bikers, path material and so on. Please give me any feedback you have, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

That's the path along the 5 freeway near Los Feliz? I lived in that area 30 years ago, before there was a path there, but now I see there's even an overcrossing at Los Feliz. Is this the path you're talking about? I've been admiring it as I drive up the 5, wanting to ride on it. Is there a map of the current path on the web somewhere? Where is the proposed expansion going to be?

Thanks! .........Richard

the path would be an extension of the existing trail starting at riverside drive and the Golden State Freeway and continuing to the Cornfields Park.

Make sure the trail goes all the way from redlands to the beach.
Nice smooth paving is nice, the concrete and asphault combos seem to be done poorly and are bumpy in places (hauling a kid trailer is nicer when it's smooth)
Get them clean and swept every now and then.
Some of the underpasses have tight switchbacks that can catch you off guard, maybe better warning signage.

And most importantly:

PAVED ENTRANCES TO THE PATH
I have a road bike and have to go over sand/gravel areas to get to the path all the time.
Clearly mark the entrances to the path and make them easily accessible. I just discovered a nice entrance by me but it took some searching and is tucked away behind a building.
