Trail a bike hitch modification
 

My mother in law gave us an Adams Trail-a-bike for our son this week.

He's is really excited to use it and I think it will be great for him, but... that hitch? Are people really expected to pull their seat post to set that thing up? There are 4 or 5 different bikes that I may use to pull him with.
It looks like the REI model has a better quick release type hitch, does anyone know if this can be purchased separately? or if someone is selling some sort of upgrade to the adams?

Also should I have any concerns pulling this thing with my road bike? The seat post is CF and fairly lightweight at 200g.

Or concerns pulling him with a mountain bike with almost 300mm of post showing?

I use a Trek type trail a bike as a single wheeled trailer. I attache it to my OCR2. Not a problem.

You can buy a few extra seatpost receiver hitches. Last time I checked, they were fairly cheap.
One problem. I really don't recommend it on a carbon-frame seat tube... unless you want to crash, that is.

Yeah, I recently upgrade to a road bike, carbon fiber seat post: I bought a NON Carbon Fiber to use as long as the TaB is in use....
DO not use it, jsut buy a 15 dollar alluminum post and be safe-

I just bought multiple hitches for multiple bikes. One could also, if all the bikes have the same seat tube diameter, have one t-a-b seat tube and move that among bikes.

Thanks for all the tips here.. I just decided to make my mountain bike the dedicated hauler. It is the most forgiving for different seatpost heights... The road bike took me weeks to get right, and even a mm or two change and I can feel it. I would hate to be moving that thing around.
