KHS Urban Express vs Absolute 2.0 - What am I paying extra for?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post as I am new to the cycling world. I just sold my old bike because it was much too big and am going to splurge on a new bike, but I don't know enough about bikes to decide.

I tested the Fuji Absolute 2.0 which I absolutely love, but it is a little out of my price range that I was hoping to spend. I also tested the KHS Urban Express which I also enjoyed.

My question is what am I paying extra for in the Fuji Absolute and is it worth the extra amount in terms of cost for a novice rider like myself.

I'm riding on paved trails around 25km.

Thanks Everyone.

Links would be helpful:

http://khsbicycles.com/06_urban_xpress_09.htm MSRP $489

http://fujibikes.com/LifeStyle/RoadP...bsolute20.aspx MSRP $820

The KHS is full Cr-Mo steel, the Fuji is aluminum frame with a carbon fork. Others can comment on the other differences.

Looking at the webpages and the prices, I can't really answer the question. If a bike isn't calling to you to take it out for a ride, it will find itself neglected, is about all I can say.

Let's see.

You are probably paying about $100 extra for the carbon fork. Definitely extra for the Shimano Deore front and rear derailleurs & shift levers. More expensive wheel set. Hard to say on many of the other components, as both are using a lot of no-name, house-brand stuff.

The Fuji is lighter, my guess is by 3-4 pounds. More speed-oriented than the KHS. But the KHS would likely have a smooth ride, with its cro-moly frame and wider (35mm) tires - although those Fuji carbon forks do a good job of absorbing vibration.
