My three year old changed his 1st bike tire tonight

Well, daddy may have helped a little, but the 16" wheeled Trek a friend gave us is ready to rock and roll with a new rear tire. He rode it around the basement a bit with my help and is demanding a set of training wheels. :thumb:

He'll have a career as a bike mechanic, not a cyclist - look what you've started.

Awesome !

My daughter started helping me lace wheels when she was 8 and prefers to do all her own mechanical work (with dad doing the checking of course).

Training wheels are something I don't advise... it would be better to remove the cranks and turn that Trek into a push bike as then your son will learn to balance far more quickly and make a smoother transition to riding on his own.

I was reading the R&F forum last night and am thinking that's a good idea. The little one just wants to be like his big brother. My older son is turning 6 shortly and I think it's time he got off his training wheels too. He has a 20" bike but I think I will pull the pedals and lower the seat on his 16" bike instead and have them push around the driveway. I just need to adjust the hand brakes on both since there's a bit of slope that they could get into trouble with.
