British Cycling's Go-Ride Youth programme

Just wondered, is there anything like this on your side of the pond? If not, why not? I know there are cultural differences, but I suspect that we are closer to US than to continental Europe - betwixt and between, maybe?

I've read about short vacation programmes and bike rodeos, but there doesn't seem to be anything along our lines.

We're lucky, we have a 0.5 mile tarmac circuit, a mini (very) bmx track and the use of two all-weather soccer pitches (rolled ash/shale) attached to a council-run sports centre and operate 52(ish) weeks/year. This is more than many Go-Ride clubs have, but there are now several hundred up and running.

There are a number of hoops to jump thro' - coaches, organised programmes, volunteers, child protection policies, club constitution, proper record-keeping, etc., but it was well worth jumping thro' them.

I've read nothing on this section that indicates anything like the Go-Ride scheme in the US - does anyone know of one?

I do know of the Sprockids and Trips for Kids, but they have somewhat different aims.

I have not heard of one. That does not mean they do not exist but I would be surprised if they exist in the areas that I have lived. The typical riding is adult based. Kids have events based on adult organizations. I.e., youth events and rides in conjunction with adult events and rides. There is the occasional rodeo organized by the police, cub/boy scouts or other civic organization, but the majority of events are secondary to adult events. The closest I have seen is a local chapter that we have of Trips For Kids, which is a pretty awesome group.
