Allen trunk rack
Has anyone used the Allen trunk rack? Academy Sports now carries them for $30. I just need to carry one bike, a 32-lb Trek Nav 200 ladies bike. Due to health problems, I can't lift it very high. On the Allenrack.com site, it looks like the bike would set pretty high. Any comments on this one?

never seen one of those before, but from the site it looks like it might set a little higher than some other ones. have you checked out the saris sentinal? it's a little more money but it might work for you https://www.nashbar.com/profile_morei...ku=9069&brand=
look for one of the discount coupons for nashbar or performance.com and it will save you some money. you can find coupons in the hot deals section of bikeforums.

I have an Allen 103B trunk rack. Lift height depends more on the vehicle you have more then the rack. You never want a bicycle tire near the tailpipe.

I have both the two and three bike Allen racks. I have been using them for years. They are easy to put on the car, sturdy, fold flat when not in use and are very inexpensive. You must be careful when purchasing one to make sure that it will fit on your car. When we bought a Honda Odyssey last summer, I found that the spoiler prevents attaching a truck mount rack. Allen's internet site says that they don't support the Odyssey. Undaunted, I realized that the rear door does have hinges behind the spoiler. After some modifications on my vise and with a hacksaw, I was able to adapt the attaching clamps to fit tightly over the hinges. Now I use my Allen rack on the Odyssey, an accomplishment that has brought a bit of attention from other Odyssey users when I have been parked around other bikes. The same adaption should work with other brands of trunk mount bike racks.
