wee ride on tandem stoker position?
 

i ride with my 6 year old seated in the stoker position. she doesn't pedal she just is along for the ride. I was thinking maybe I could install a wee ride in between her handlebars and seat and the 2 kiddos could share that space with my 2 year old on the wee ride and her on her seat and able to hold onto the wee ride also.

Anyone done it?

Have you thought of kiddie cranks, http://www.precisiontandems.com/catframepart.htm . We've a number of parents who've done this and even ridden club eveing 10m TTs with them. But I don't know anyone who's tried to fit another nipper in as well.

I can endorse the kid-back stoker setups. My eldest girl has been stoking for over a year now, and just turned 5. It's noticeable extra power, not a lot, but it makes her part of the team and not the luggage.

My younger daughter rode on the seat that goes over the rear wheel, on the rack. That worked pretty well and everyone enjoyed it, although if she kicked her feet loose they could hit the older girl's feet.

I can't speak to the wee-ride from experience. But when we had our third child I tried to visualize one in front of my child-stoker, and didn't see how it could fit as the 5-yold's arms aren't long enough to reach around properly.

Maybe your 6-year old could do so, and maybe different handlebars would make a difference.

I'm not really concerned with her pedaling.. may be in the future, but for now it's more about getting her little brother out of the trailer where his idea of entertainment is to squish his little sister! Anyway it looks like because I have the captain's seat just about as far down as it will go (and can't be raised or it will be too high for me!) in order to mount the wee ride I'll probably have to remove the stoker's handlebars which actually looks like it will be ok as my daughter can just hold onto the wee ride itself. Will have to wait till I get some help though. Some of the bolts, etc. are so tight I can't loosen them by myself. Will let you know how it goes :) Thank you!

I have to agree that a child holding on just to the wee-ride sounds really sketchy. You've now got the weight of a 6-year-old pulling sideways on something designed for a toddler.

Could you go with a much shorter stem than the regular stoker stem, so that it's in front of the wee-ride? Then, the long high-rise handlebars from a kids' chopper-style bike to reach back to the six-year-old?
