    Garage organization

With a family of five, the garage has been a mess of bicycles for years - and that was before I picked up road cycling as a sport and acquired two additional bikes (sans kickstand, of course). So I'm looking into options for stalling those bikes a little more space-efficiently. No wall space available, and I don't think I trust my kids with anything ceiling-suspended, so it has to be something free-standing. Any good solutions to share?

    Rob,

Have you ever been at an event with a lot of bikes where they have these pipes setup so one just lifts his saddle and hangs the bike by the saddle?

    You can buy one ($170?):

But I'm just making my own: all you need is to span a piece of pipe at the right height.

    This is what I mean:

But you can clearly store them more compactly and both ways.

There are several posts about storing bikes over in the General Cycling forum and the 50+ forum, with pics too.

Inspired by some of the links above, I put some scrap wood to use and built a rack of my own. A big advantage is that I could custom-build it, spacing the slots in such a way that all bikes can be inserted and removed easily, while still fitting in the allotted space. Thanks again for the pointers!

Wall hooks is what I'm using to store 4 bikes with minimal space. I would use ceiling hoist but door openers are in the way.
