Purchasing Advice on used Trek Jet

Hi -- Can you give me your advice on purchasing a used Trek Jet. I found a great, *Great* deal on a used Trek Jet 16 in from an out of state classifieds. The seller has sent me an OK picture, but has been realtively unresponsive about condition. He'll only it's "solid" "with a few scratches" and that it's been stored indoors.

Is it worth it to buy a bike for my kids (I hope to pass it from my 5 year old to his younger brother) sight unseen, with a seller who is not so responsive?

In general, do you have opinions about buying used kids bikes? I mean, Isn't it heartbreaking to spend $120 on a bike when it'll only be left out in the rain and ridden off ramps??
