Another Topeak II thread

You'd think I'd be able to get this info from a retailer or manufacturer, but I'm having a hell of a time.

So the Topeak Child Seat II comes with a rack (says its disc compatible) that the seat secures to. All well and good, but I'd prefer to have a bigger more awesomer rack back there for when I am not transporting Mr. Booh Bah. I can't seem to find out if I can safely secure this seat to a rack other than the one Topeak produces.

Any thoughts or experience out there? Can anyone point me to a retailer that has good online/phone service that I could try (I don't live close to anything like an REI where I can go in and investigate).

Thanks!

I have a lot of Topeak stuff and they seem pretty fond of their rack system, so I'm guessing if the seat comes with a rack it's pretty much designed only to work with that rack.
Can't tell if you've tried this already, but I'd suggest you use the REI web site to find the nearest store (even if it's not that close) that has one in stock, and then call the store directly. I've always found REI folks more than helpful. I've never gone so far as to request cell phone pictures of anything, but it wouldn't hurt to ask!
As a last resort, you could order one from Amazon or some place with a generous return policy and check it out yourself.

Judging from the way the rack stays are bent, it looks to me like the seat will only work with the specially-designed Topeak rack. I have 2 other Topeak racks (not disc compatible, though) that don't look anything like that.

Thanks. Closest REi is 3 hours. I never thought of calling an actual store and talking to someone, rather than talking to some customer serve type. Anyway, went ahead and ordered it. You're probably right that it does only fit on that rack. If not, and I can use a a more preferable rack on my bike than I'll just have an extra to go on my wife's bike, etc.

There was a recall on the Topeaks so look into that as well. I think they fixed the problem by giving those with topeak seats some additional thing for the rack. Google it to get the details.

The Baby Seat II is designed to only function with the Baby Seat II rack from Topeak. This is to ensure the safety of the child. The rack is compatible with other Topeak MTX bags (various trunk bags, baskets, panniers, etc) when the Baby Seat II is removed.
