1st ride with my 4 year old son
We were out camping this past weekend and brought all the bikes along.
My wife was walking with our 2 year old on a strider (balance bike) and I went out with my 4 year old on his pedal bike. All the rides around our neighbourhood at home he wasn't going very quick so I just jogged beside him. Well this time, he took off!!! I had to coach him back to our camp site so I could get my bike out of the van and ride with him. I wish I had my speedometer on my mtb working so I could clock him!!!
What fun that was.

Treasure those moments, I was there yesterday and now I am riding with my grand-kids, which by the way is pretty darn cool!!!!!

I need to get my 3-year old a bike and take the drivetrain off if I can to make it a balance bike. Not sure how he'll take to it, though. I simply CAN NOT get the kid to try to pedal his tricycle. He just wants to push along with this feet, though I guess I balance bike is the same thing. I think the trike might be too small for him, though. His knees come up really high when he does put his feet on the pedals, and the crank arms on the trike are super-duper short.

I tried taking the drive train off of a bike for my son but it was still too big for him. The strider we bought was perfect, light weight low to the ground. Once he got going on it he took off, here is a small clip of our oldest when we was getting the hang of the strider.

Awesome stuff here. My boy is 19 months now and he'll be ready for a strider pretty soon. I know he *loves* when we go on our family rides and he's behind me in the "copilot" seat. Took forever to get my daughter riding with any confidence (7 y/o), but I suspect little Dalton will be a bit more enthusiastic.

I'm hoping a little 12" bike with no cranks will work for my kid, because he's pretty tall for his age - I mean seriously he's the size of a 4 or 5 year old almost.
