Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

Anyone recognize this recumbent bike?

My initial guess was Vision but I can't find one exactly like it. I am wondering if this is a decent recumbent bicycle to pick up or if it is a budget/cheaper make or model. All I have are these pics and I'm told it needs some work. Looks like rust so it must be steel I'm thinking. But it could be dirt too. The drivetrain appears to be Shimano. Not sure which but it is equipped with nice bar end shifters as pictured.

Here's a link to all of the Vision models. Vision Recumbent Bicycles: Guide to bicycle models and versions The only year they made an R40 with suspension is in 1998. Vision Recumbent Bicycles: Guide to bicycle models and versions The hardshell seat is another anomaly. If you google on "vision recumbent bike pictues" almost all have mesh seats. Most have OSS and the few that show up with a USS all seem to use the mesh seat. This bike might also be missing the pad for the seat. It looks mighty uncomfortable as is.

It doesn't look quite like a Turner, or its predecessor the Hypercycle. And it's definitely not a Vision. My guess is, it's a homebuilt.

Guys I picked this one up after someone figured it out on Bentrider online forums. It's a Radius Hornet 2 made in Germany. Sold for about $2200. I got it for $150 as pictured above (not below) needing a little love. It can ride but the drivetrain is out of adjustment and all the cables are frayed and need replacement. Of course a seat pad would be nicer than a metal pan. And I'd love to find decals even though the company is no more. It's a lot cooler machine than I expected.. but it's gonna take some work to get right. But restored it will be.

I pictured one I found on the web below with decals. These seem to be really rare.
