i refuse to let it go, i love my bikeE and so does everyone else i know that rides one. does anyone else feel as strongly about their BikeE as i do?

I agree I have had my AT for 2 years with 6700 miles on it and got a used CT for my wife this last spring and just after we got the news of bikee going out of business we bought a new E2 tandem which are LBS will warrenty for 5 years. We just had are maiden voyage on the tandem yesterday.

how was the E2? i always wondered what it would be like to ride one of those things...

The E2 is very different then the AT or CT in that the front wheel is right under you as captain, so the streering is real quick.My wife and I are out every night riding it so I will keep you up to date.

Yes I also ride a Bike E and I just love it. I bought the AT in July 2000. I was in REI about 2 weeks ago and they had an FX that was on sale for $899.00 and I asked the salesman why is was discounted and he told me the company went bankrupt. I was just shocked!! I can't believe they were bankrupt. Anyway, I left the store and a few days later called to see if they still had the FX and they did and I asked them if they would be willing to negotiate on the price and they said yes so I offered them a lower price and they took it. Now I am the proud owner of 2 bike E's!
Does anyone know if the company went bankrupt because of mismanagement or what? I can't believe the sales were that bad.

Just got a great deal on a new RX (rear suspension only) that was sitting in a dealer's warehouse. I used to own an older model (can't remember which one) that I sold to buy a more racey recumbent. I am now selling the racey bike and looking forward to getting back on the BikeE.

The dealer told me that several recalls (seats, forks) helped in the demise of BikeE.

I love my BikeE. I got a great deal on a new AT when the company folded. I've had the bike 3 years and it has over 5,000 miles on it. I've replaced the original tires, chain and cassette, and other than that it's just been regular maintenance. I use it to commute to work 12 miles everyday, and for joyriding on weekends. I don't own a car. My only complaint with BikeE is recumbutt during long rides, over 40 miles, due to the upright seat position and low bottom bracket. I hope to get a bike more suitable for long distance touring soon, but I'll keep the BikeE as the best commuter bike I've ever owned.

I baught a 2001 Bike E CT in July of 01 and have rode it daily til spring of this year, and thats when i killed some parts "ie rear derailur, chain, and my shifters craped on me" it only have a lil over 2000 miles on it.

is it possible to switch the rear derailuer and shifters over to rapidfires??

I still have my BikeE. . .er. . .my wife does. I haven't ridden it myself in about 2 years. The recumbent that replaced it dominates my time.

It takes 40 miles for your butt to get sore? I would count myself blessed. How long does it take you to do do forty miles?

James, I'm not into "racing" at all. When commuting to work, I plan an hour for the 12 mile ride. It usually takes less, and I arrive on time and relaxed, not sweaty. For weekend fun rides, I try to stop every 10 or 15 miles, walk around and stretch. But even so, I "hit the wall" at around 40 to 50 miles with the BikeE. My dream is to someday do a Century, and to this end I'm looking at bikes with a more reclined seat and slightly higher bottom bracket. I've tested the Rans Velocity and loved it, but want to try a V-Rex before making a final decision. I'll keep the BikeE for commuting.
It really works well in traffic with the upright position. I'm
59 years old, if that means anything.

We have had our new V-Rexes for just over a week and have just under 200 miles on them. We will take them back to our LBS this week for some minor adjustments, but so far they have exceeded our expectations. It was very humid here in Western Michigan today but we rode from Marne to Muskegon on the Muskatawa Trail (51 miles round trip) and were able to average over 13 mph for the entire ride. Considering the slowing down for road crossings, long coasting stops for short breaks, etc. that is a very good speed for this old 61 year-old motor. On one down grade (less than 4%) we exceeded 20 mph without any effort. The best we could get out of the BikeE ATs on this trail was an average speed of 9 mph. Our BikeE ATs were sold last Saturday (two days after I posted them on BROL and the BikeE-List) and we are certain that we will not miss them at all. The V-Rex is well made (as near as I can tell US made) and its being a SWB makes it easy to transport on the Karacks receiver hitch bike carrier that we use on the back of our Sable. My wife looked at the V2 but gave it a pass as at 88" overall it would have stuck out on either side of the Sable and she was afraid that some one might hit it. Get the V-Rex as a replacement for your BikeE, you will not regret it. If you feel you need the shock absorbing features of the AT check out Angletech's modifications to the V-Rex. They are a bit pricey but if that floats your boat go for it. :D
