Speedo at the end of the boom

So I finally got fed up with the way Optima wants bike computers mounted on the Condor (that is, between the crotch, so you can't see a thing if you happen to wear a heavy coat, or if you have a map holder on your tummy). I made a cheap mount to relocate the speedo to the very end of the boom, between my feet. Now finally I can see it great, the buttons are easier to reach when stopped, and best of all, the detachable unit can be left on the bike to run errands, as it can't be casually stolen away without slipping the front derailleur cable out of the stop, which isn't too obvious if you don't know the bike.

Here's what the thing looks like :

and as seen by the rider :

Very nice.

I thought about mounting the computer for my Rocket down there, but I fiddle with the buttons too much while riding.

So I have about 9 miles of wire to get it up to my handlebars. :)

Hey That's Great.....

necessity being the mother of invention, it's amazing what one can come up with when you try.

AWESOME! I wish more computer makers offered alternate mounts...

I think the problem is, if they decide to offer something other than the ring-around-the-handlebar and rubberband-around-the-stem solutions for recumbents, then the list of possible mounting options becomes endless. What computer makers really should do is supply a mount with a curved bottom that can be rotated 90 degrees so it can be mounted on handlebars as well as top tubes, stems, recumbent booms,... and with a tilting top. A sort of universal mount that just requires a bit of double-sided tape and a couple of zip ties to adapt to any situation.

I suppose as long as recumbents are a niche market, computer manufacturers won't bother. They probably know recumbentists are used to hacking and adapting things for their specific needs anyway...
