Combined shifter/brake levers on USS

Hey guys,
I have an AB Jetstream II USS. The handlebars are a little crowded with the gripshifts and upsidedown brake levers. Whatdya think of using some combined brake/shifters? Its a triple chainring/ 7spd.
Any ideas? It seems like 8spd is more common, would it be easy enough to switch out my cassette or would I have to replace the derailleur too?
thanks
Mike

Don't. You won't really gain anything and shifting will be awkward. The only reasonable change would be to go to bar-end shifters which might be more to your liking in terms of both space and function.
