kids' trailer for recumbents?
Hi fellow recumbenteers, I have a Vison R40 and am looking for a trailer that will haul infants. I figure I need a special hitch that will work on a recumbent as well as an upright. Does anyone know of some nice trailers for recumbents. Thanks, Charlie in Missoula, MT

Check out the burley trailers, they are considered one of the best out their. THey hook up to you're real axle. Their website specifiacly mentions that it will work with a recumbent.

Ditto's on the Burley. Have got a Burley D-Lite myself. Light-weight, very stable. Hitches are available to connect to a recumbent. Vist the LBS.

I use a Kool Stop with my Vision R44 and it works pretty good. The only thing I had to do was move the kickstand forward a tad and put the quick-release skewer in with the lever on the cog side of the rear wheel. When the shop I got my trailer from got another one in (after I bought their last one), it had a different type of hitch mount that hooked to the axle instead of the chainstay. This should eliminate the two "problems" mentioned above (which were no big deal at all). The Burley's are nice too. That probably would have been my pick if I had a choice but the local shop didn't carry them. I'm thinking of switching to a Piccolo now, since my son's getting older, but I may just get a tandem instead.

Don't know to much about kid trailers. But like others has stated check out Burley and I think B.O.B. may make one for kids too.
As far as needing a special hitch to attach it, that is not the case. I believe that most if not all trailers, regardless of what they are designed to haul/carry, come with a replacement quick release skewer that is designed so your trailer can attach to it. Or a standard chain stay attachment that will work on almost all bikes.
The most you would have to do is cut the skewer to the proper lenght. A simple hack saw is all you need for that. At least that is the way it is with B.O.B. trailers. For the chain stay attachment just follow the directions on how to install it.
Other then that there is no special equipment needed to attach a trailer to a bike provided the bike has standard rear drop outs. Have yet to see a bike that doesn't.
