Folks,

Thanks again for all the replies on my previous recumbent questions.

This one might be a dumb one, though. I guess a SWB recumbent cannot be held in the air on a regular bike repair stand (even with a hefty does of Zen ?). So how about doing regular maintenance like adjusting derailleurs and brakes ?

I have a park pcs-9 repair stand that works great! I have a jackstand that I used to use that worked okay to hold the rear wheel up off the ground. It definitely wasn't a great solution, thus the Park Stand.

Depends which end of the bike I need to hold up.

I use this work stand that will hold either the front or rear wheel off the ground:

though it's not too steady sometimes for heavy wrenching.

Quite steady, but only holds up the front with the wheel off.

One of these days I'll buy a real work stand, I guess.

You can always use a scrapped bike trainer. I bought one from my LBS for about $5.00. I use it to hold the bike when I wash it & do minor repairs.

BTW you can hold a recumbent with a regular repair stand you just have to know where to hold it from. My LBS holds mine from the seat frame, like they would with a wedgie. They also have an adapter to hold 'bents from the frame itself, but refrain from doing so as much as possible because hold any bike from anything structural like the frame is not a good idea. Holding it from a seat frame or seat post is no biggie.

My Park repair stand works fine with my V-Rex. I just put the clamp on its wide setting, turn it horizontal, and clamp the main tube on the V-Rex just in front of the seat. Works perfectly.

You should be able to work something out with a repair stand for any bent that has a tube no wider than the RANS bikes (1.5") somewhere near the middle with enough space to operate the clamp.

Park has a very wide range clamp suitable for tubes upwards of 2.5" in
size that can be mounted on any of their stands. One problem with
this approach is you have to take care with any der or brake cables
that run under the tube. Helps to have three hands when mounting
or unmounting the bike as bents are top heavy, DF bikes are not.

I built a "grabber" that grabs on to the seat rail of my Burley and a Park stand hold the whole thing up in the air really well.

I use a bike "pulley" like this one. Advantage is that it keeps the garage floor clear. (Very important to me, since I have 2 cars, 1 motorcycle, and 5 bikes in a 2 car garage!)
