Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

Hi atomship47-

What is the total value of the three bikes you purchased in the past few months? That could have an impact on the advice given to you.

Get a part-time job delivering newspapers! You'll have a new 'bent in no time.

All joking aside, I have an acquaintance who decided he needed some spending money for a couple of "toys" and didn't feel that it should come out of family funds. He got a job pushing carts at a superstore after his normal workday ( suffice it to say that pushing shopping carts was a long way off from his normal job). Saved the money, bought the toys and when his kids came asking for some bucks for something they wanted, he told them that he had the solution to their money problems. I don't know whether the kids thought it was worth the extra effort or not, but if not then I guess their desires must not have been too important after all.

ok-- i'm a wife here - trying to get my tight husband to buy a recumbent. the most he's done is put slicks on his old mountain bike, then he pouts at the end of the ride because he can't stay up with me. is your wife a biker?? buy HER a bent--a trike, a Bacchetta Cafe -- something easy and fun--then she'll understand.
and aren't you talking about next christmas...
try being very very good

This means war. You're gonna have to forbid your wife's next trip to the hair stylist/beautician.

A friend of mine is a motorbike fanatic, when he asked his wife if he could buy another new bike she said sarcasticly "of course you can". He decided to ignore the sarcasm and went out and bought one. I think he's still sleeping on the sofa.

Wife shouldn't tell you what not to do, if it turns out to be a bad idea that you got an extra recumbent, then it's up to you to fix the situation, whether it be selling off a kid or few of her luxury items..

Yes-there was an email circular a year or so back. When a woman says, "fine,go ahead", this is a dare and NOT permission. Don't do it.

Mrs Biketony is very supportive. She graciously endured my 2 year mid-life Harley experience. I know that she would really like to be seen riding around the neighborhood on the Electra Amsterdam.... Time to show MY gratitude!

Tell her not to buy that next big thing she wants, till the budget gets better. If she goes ahead and gets it anyway, you're home free. bk

Really? My wife just bought ME a Felt F75. I buy her things, she buys me things, we find a balance, and we're all happy. A bike, in my opinion, is not something that should come between a couple.

Buying two bikes for $600 might seem pretty reasonable to a lot of people.

But when you drop $2200 on a 3rd bike, there's a lot of guys who would be subject to a freeze for a while.

Then if you start talking another $1500+ for a bent, all within 9 months, well, a number of wives might raise an objection. Especially if she hasn't been receiving an equal share.

Some wives can't have enough purses or shoes, so if Louis Vuitton and Manolo Blanik are for her why can't the hubby collect Bacchetta and Velokraft? Of course one would need a bigger closet.

My wife doesn't believe in the equal share thing, so I've decided not to either. I just don't tell details about when I'm going to buy something, she only knows I'm going to buy something.

BTW, Tom is that the new helmut the bike shop gave you when you bought your new bike?
