Sun EZ Tadpole?

So, anyone have this trike?

I've been looking to buy a Sun EZ3 AX trike this spring, but am still debating the tadpole. I've always thought I'd prefer the OSS, but thought I'd find out more about the Tadpole. I also prefer the more upright seating.

Is it easy to get up from the seated position? I'm not in shape and hope to rectify this situation by riding.

From an article "the handlebar headset where an above the steering stem could easily be used instead of the standard USS configuration." What does this actually mean?

Also, what accessories are available for this model? Is there a good way to add computers etc?

Anyone have any good pics/videos of this trike? full views and close-ups of components/handlebars etc?

USS is Under Seat Steering

Tadpole isn't too bad to get out of, just lock the brakes and steady yourself with the boom (Where the crank is mounted) as you stand up.

I know what USS means, I was talking about the whole quote, about changing the USS to OSS.

I have a tadpole trike. That is, two wheels in front. I thought "tadpole" was used for the front two wheel configuration. Just "trike" or tricycle for two rear wheels. Well, live and learn. No trouble getting out of it once I removed the full body fairing. Flexibility is needed more then aeroic fitness. Again, just put your feet down, lean forward, pulling on the frame if needed to get the center of your weight over your feet, and stand up.

I went to the site for that trike and looked at the specs. The gearing seems to be a little high. Given that you will have to do all your pedalling sitting down you will need somewhat lower gears then a standard bike for going up-hill. See if Easy Racer will lower the gearing for you . My tadpole has a 22 front and 38 rear low. I took it over some of the major climbs in Colorado with those gears.

I test rode the Sun while I was looking at trikes. They are fun, but they weigh a ton. For the same money or maybe even slightly less, you can get a used Cattrike in excellent condition which will be better as well as significantly lighter. If you really want a brand new trike and you're on a limited budget, I think I'd prefer a TerraTrike.

Tadpoles are a ton of fun to ride, and you won't have trouble getting out unless you have a physical disability. You can add just about anything to most trikes -- racks, fenders, panniers, computers, etc.

Right; Tadpole trike = 2 front wheels, but 2 back wheels is not just a "trike", usually a Delta trike.

The stock EZ Tadpole has 21 gears [7-wheel, 3 front rings], and the 7 on the small ring are too low for me!

Oh, it just means using a EZ3SX headset and using the handlebar set up., that's all. Sorry, I misinterpreted what you asked.:)

This is the SX my wife rides:

We're getting ready for a 660 mile tour in May with her riding it!

""The small ring are too low for me"" ??? What do you mean? I thought the Sun SX had 24 gears and CX 27 gears? How many gears does a tadpole need?

I am a "masher" rather than a "spinner". I do not like pedaling like crazy and going 2 - 3 miles-per-hour. The small front chainring is useless to me. I got short 155 mm cranks on my SX and removed the small front ring. The CX I have as a loaner still has 170 mm cranks and all 3 front rings. Good reason for staying away from that one ;-).

The only gear changes in 2005 were derailleur components (seat weight, components, & higher gears). My CX is all stock; but my SX has new derailleurs, shifters, teflon, extensions, short cranks, hard shell w/open cell, etc.

The rear cassettes were 7 gears for both the CX and SX, and both had 3 front chainrings- so both had 3x7= 21 forward gears. I did not want any lower gears so I left the hubs alone; instead of 8 or 9 speed cassette upgrades.
