Ending the drought

My Optima lacks bottle cages. What possible solutions can I go with for a hard-shelled high-racer? I have looked at the fastback stuff, but am not thrilled about paying $86US for a hydra-pack system that doesn't include the bladders.

I am looking for, I think, the ability to carry 1 bottle (nice and easy for shorter rides) plus a hydra-pack or two for the longer stuff.

I cannot say enough good things about fastback. You won't find a better designed system for a bent, IMO. Not to mention the fastback will be MUCH more aero than any bottle would be. I can carry a full bladder plus a few odds and ends in the pack, eliminating the need to carry anything else.

The only other system I know is the twofish velcro watter bottle cage.

Vetta sells an adapter that will clamp onto your tiller and has two bolt holes for mounting a standard bottle cage. Here's how I have my bottle mounted.

You can easily clamp almost any standard bottle cage onto any tube, with a pair of hose clamps. Just choose a size that will fit around the frame of your bike. Be sure to slide a piece of heat-shrink tubing over the hose clamp so that the metal doesn't scratch the paint. The hose clamps hold onto the bottle cage approximately where the holes are for the screws.
