Haluzak Leprechaun

I just finished helping my friend put together his new recumbent.

It's a 2006 Haluzak Leprechaun. It's brand new never used. He paid $875 for it. Haluzak says he will supply parts etc. for three years. He stopped making them, this is probably the last of it's kind.

What do you think about this bike?

From what little I know of them, the Leprechaun was designed for x-seam challenged individuals; its seat was a little lower than on his other models. In general, most people who get Haluzaks love them for their nice ride and reasonable speed. Haluzaks are among the minority of bents with USS, too. The only problem I ever heard of was the occasional seat breaking.

Hope that helps.

Looks to me like a copy of Vision R40 SWB bike. You could get one of those used around $400, I did; twice even..

The Leprechaun is a really nice bike. If he paid that for a new one, he got a screamin deal, as they usually sell for $800-1500 used, depending on the year and the condition. Haluzak make some of the best swb recumbents around. I had one for a couple of years and regret selling it. I never had any problem with the seat, and being a heavy rider, I think if it was going to break it would have.
The Leprechaun is identical to the Horizon except for the smaller front wheel to accomodate shorter riders. (I am 5'4" and it fit me perfectly) He may find he has a bit of heel strike in sharp turns,as I did, but it was easily remedied with the addition of pedal extenders. Hope he enjoys his new bike...it's a good 'un!

Thanks sappho1949 for a more detailed summation than I could provide. I should add that the seat breaking problem was not widespread, and mostly involved older bikes.

cat0020 - The 'Zak wasn't a copy of a Vision. If I had to draw parallels, it would look more like a USS version of a 26/20 Volae (if there was such a beast) - closer to a classic stick design than a Vision was.
