When you get your first recumbent is when you discover that much of the effort of riding an upright has nothing to do with turning the pedals
I've had people borrow mine, and they did not regularly exercise or ride at all--and they'd stay out for an hour, an hour and a half, and come back with 10-15 miles on the computer.
Which is not real far or fast--but just the fact that they sat on it and pedaled for that long is significant.
They'd have never rode an upright bike for that long.
Some of these people had
upright bikes they never ride, for just that reason....
