I have been having prostrate problems and my PSA count is up, I hope due to riding (160-200 miles/wk).
I have made a deal with the Doc that I will get off the bike for a couple of weeks, then go in for a new PSA blood work, hoping it will be down, and he will not fight me for another biopsy which is painful and expensive.

I am now riding regular road bikes and have never been on a bent.

I have been toying with the idea of a bent anyway, and found this item which is a lot cheaper than a boipsy, and hopefully less painful. Whatdoyathink?

I don't know if it's a good buy for recumbent or not, but I don't understand your PSA situation. Riding a recumbent won't lower your PSA if you have cancer and if you have cancer, you want to know it and treat it. Get the biopsy.

The point is to get the pressure off the soft spot with the bent. I am convinced at least part of the problem is the irratation from so much riding on a wedgie. I just want to relieve the pressure for a while by riding a bent and check the results. I guess I could just quit riding, and start running for a couple of weeks and may do that instead, but hate to give up my riding.

If you are a serious DF cyclist you will not be satisfied with a end low recumbent. You are probably used to a fast responsive DF with good components. If you want to ride a bent I would shop around for a used high performance model. You'll save $$$ and you'll enjoy the ride.

I would have to kind of disagree with vik on this I do about the same mileage a Halfast and in August started splitting my rides on a Rans Stratus and my Specialized Roubaix. It is getting now that all I ride is the Stratus LWB low bottom bracket recumbent. I am just a fast but a lot more comfortable

I think:
1. For $300 it's probably hot. New they are $800-1200 and I've never seen a used one in respectable shape go for as little as half retail.
2. If you rode a comfort bike or a hybrid, you might jump to a low-performance bent like an EZ-Sport without too much angst. But going from a road bike to that -- you're liable to be disappointed.
3. I'm not sure about your logic re: prostate irritation, but who am I to say?

I did not come here for medical advice, I just wanted to set the stage to show this is probably a short term thing for me, and to find out if the bike offered is worth the price.

You are correct in that I ride 2 nice Fuji bikes, the best being a Team RC, Full Carbon/DuraAce stuff, 16 lbs, so I am not looking for a speedster in a bent for now.

I do not really believe this is hot stuff, bents are not real popular where I ride, and in the Austin area in general. We have no flat land. SO this could be ligit.

Being retired, I may just take the ride and look at this beast if $300 is such a good price, and buy it as a new toy. I guess if it ain't hot, it is a HOT deal!!

So what if bents are not popular in Austin. If Lance was seen riding on around Lake Travis, there wouldn't be enough bents in production to satisfy Austin. I have a nice road bike--a Moots Compact w/Dura-Ace and also an extra Shimano Compact crank set w/about 5 other saddles. Then there is the Bike Friday Pocket Crusoe. Since I bought my Easy Racers Gold Rush, the DF's have collected dust and gotten flat tires. I could care less what people think about me on a bent. I'm happy and comfortable. Riding is fun again-----------and the Garmin 305 w/heartrate and cadence********************??I would have to look for them to put them on the bent.

Hills. I climb slower, but I go downhill a LOT faster and the flats are faster---------did I mention the absolute comfort**********???

Bottom line, don't knock a bent until you've tried one, and good luck on the prostate. Don't wait too long!

That Sun is heavy and not particularly fast. It's ok (recumbent version of a beach cruiser), but it won't be a thrill to ride, especially going uphill. I have no doubt you'll be able to ride it, and it's only $300. So get it, try it as a first bent, then sell it and get something better that you'll really love.

I was NOT disparaging bents, but only trying to justify the cheap price of the one I am talking about by saying they are not popular here, and that might be the reason for the good price. Sorry I hit a sore spot.

This is my third year on an EZ Sport and it has solved all my pain issues with df bikes, ilncluding seat induced prostate problems. I'm 59 and ride it about 2,000 miles per year. It's very comfortable and handles well. They do have a larger turning radius because of the long wheel base. This could be a problem in commuting, with tight turns in tight situations being more difficult. For recreational riding, they are just the thing.
$300 is a great price for a CX, if it is in reasonable shape. If that deal were available here in Noorthern California, I'd grab it for the vacation house. Definately check it out. bk
