Standard loop with new lowracer
I mis-read my newsletter, so I missed the club ride today. With DALMAC coming up this week (Thursday) doing some sort or a ride was imperative, so I did my standard 24 mile loop from home. On the new bike, of course! This route is all rural, with 6 stop signs, all but one of which I can usually roll through, has lots of small hills, lots of chip-seal, and lots of open fields where the wind always seems to be a headwind. My best average speed ever has been 21.7 mph. Tonight was the first time the new bike has been fully operational, and the first time I did this route with it. Average speed: 22.5 mph! I'd call that significant!
Most noticeable difference was climbing the small hills in the last 1/3 of the route, where I'm starting to tire and usually crest a few of them at 13-16 mph; but this time the slowest I topped any was 18 mph. Chris, Wally doesn't know I have this, does he? |
That is impressive! :thumb:

By new bike, are we talking about the NoCom?
Regardless, that's cranking. Good job! :) |
A sign of things to come? Faster!
Get a flag, yet? |
DALMAC requires a flag. The rule has been around for so long, the organizers now insist on flags merely because they always have been. Every year, riders get hurt from throwing their legs over their bikes and getting their feet caught on the flag pole, but somehow the flag is there for 'safety.' At a time when many rides are banning flags, DALMAC is taking a more hard-line stance to use them. I don't get it.
Other than on DALMAC, I don't use a flag. But I may get a nice Dinotte tail light. |

That's the plan as of now, JanMM. But I'll need a bigger chainring than the current 53T one.
Say, you weren't on the committee that prepared the fanny flags last year, were you? Somehow, my fanny flag ended up reading "BlazingPedals" instead of my registered name. :) |

I have a 30T granny ring, and a 27T cassette. That was apparently more than good enough last year, as I never used it.
