Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

Tadpole suggestions for eventual VM conversion?

I'm thinking about building myself a fully enclosed VM. I don't want to build the bike, but will build the shell (although if that's available for purchase separately, all the better). I'd like a soft top I could use as a convertible, or open windows on for air flow, but I want to be able to be completely protected from the weather as well.

Any suggestions on a tadpole to start with that won't break the bank? Pros/cons of different models? Things to look for?

Also, if anyone knows of a shop in the Boston area (or north into NH) that carries a decent selection of these things, especially used, that would be nice too. I've never ridden a bent so I have no idea what I'm getting into here.

Thanks,

Dan

Howdy!
One manufacturer that comes to mind is Inspired Cycle Engineering and thier Q line of trikes.

They have a velomobile conversion called the Borealis - looks really cool.

VeloKit on a TerraTrike Path might be cheapest new. Used TerraTrike and used VeloKit was cheaper for me. Complete protection (sewed up the bottom) w/ zipper windows. Lasting very well.
