Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

Bent Bike Terms

One of the members @ BikeRegistry.com asked that we add "Recumbent" to the drop-down menus where "Frame Size" is typically entered. I consider my self a moderately savvy cyclist, but his idea was something I had never considered since I have only rode conventional (congrads to him for making this point).

So on Monday I will add "Recumbent" as an option. And maybe "Tandem" as another option.

To make sure I am covering everything to a reasonable depth, how about the 3-wheel recumbents, are they called "Trikes". Any help that could be provided would be most appreciated. Would like to get this correct the first time.

All the best!

Recumbents practice frame variety:
Short Wheelbase (SWB): cranks in front of forks
Long Wheelbase (LWB): cranks behind forks
Tadpole trike: two wheels in front, one in back
Delta trike: one wheel in front, two in back

There are lots of frame styles, as well as sub-features not listed, but Recumbent and Recumbent Trike would be less unwieldy.

I would suggest short wheelbase recumbent, long wheelbase recumbent, recumbent trike, tricycle, tandem and recumbent tandem.
Maybe the drop-down menu should be frame style instead of size.
