Spandura Seat Cover
In searching for a lycra/spandex fabric for my EZ Sport seat, I ran across this heavy duty spandex fabric called Spandura.
-------------------------------
This is what Seattle Fabrics says about it:
Spandura
This newly developed lycra combines the durability of Cordura nylon and the stretch of lycra. The result is a hi-tech high performance nylon/lycra knit that works where abrasion resistance and endurance are critical. Makes great riding breaches, rock climbing tights, football and baseball pants!
---------------------------------
Also, in my searching I found Spandura is used to make duffel bags, motorcycle seats and gloves
---------------------------------
I bought it online from Seattle Fabrics for $8.48 for 1/2 yard.
That was enough material to make 3 seat covers.
----------------------------------
Characteristics:
Stretches as much as the original Lycra.
But it's a firmer stretch.
The material is a lot thicker than Lycra.
But not as slippery as the Lycra.
I don't feel myself slide forward as much.
Has a very nice soft feel to it.
And it looks really nice.
-------------------------------
In about an hours time I sewed the string hem around the outer edge.
It's a little tricky to sew, but using common pins to secure the string hem helps a lot.
I taped a 3" piece of wire to the string which made it easy to feed the string through the hem.
-------------------------------
So, if you're looking for a new or better seat cover, take a look at Spandura.
