Can anyone identify my 'bent?

I've had this bike about a year now and I'm curious as to it's provenance. The bloke I brought it off has gone to Australia so I can't find out much from him. I've included a profile, a front view and also a couple of clues: the first the Gear of Glasgow logo (I've e-mailed them but I've not heard back), the second clue is the Columbus frame sticker- not a brilliant clue but shows it's not a garden shed jobbie.

Any ideas would be appreciated as I haven't got a scoobies.

The seat mount looks like a Ryan, Big drilled alumunum block
