KMX Karts/Trikes
 

Has anyone tried or own a KMX Trike and what do people here at these forums think of them?

I attended a BROL rally several years ago, when KMX brought a bunch of trikes for test rides. My impression was, they were really meant to be the trike counterpart of a bmx bike, not to be a road machine. For instance, the one I rode had a skate wheel on the end of the boom, so the rider could hit the brakes and coast with the rear wheel in the air. Kind of a reverse-wheelie bar. They are heavy and utilitarian, but fun to ride.

Hi. I am the assistant manager of a recumbent bike/trike shop. We have several KMX models in the store, and I've ridden each of them. All in all, they're decent little trikes. They're meant for "heavier-duty" riding. Heavier frames, thicker tires, etc. They go off curbs just fine, handle dirt and gravel better than most other trikes. They are, however, lower to the ground than some other brands of trikes. Doesn't affect the handling too much, but it is something to take note of. They won't replace a mountain bike, obviously, but they're lots of fun to take on dirt paths.

My son has a KMX and really likes it. As has been mentioned previously, it is built to take more abuse than a regular trike. While the KMX trikes are not top-of-the-line, high performance touring machines, they are fun to ride and are especially advantageous for shorter riders, as they accommodate a shorter x-seam than most other trike models. Also, until Catrike introduced their Dash trike, KMX was the only company, I could find, making a line of tadpole models for kids. Considering the cost of the Dash, I'd probably still buy the KMX for my son if I had to do it over again.
