BikeE stolen and recovered in 10 minutes.

While on my way to the New Castle Farmer's Market, about 10 miles from my home in Wilmington, DE, I decided to have lunch at Aunt Bumpy's, my latest food find. While I was enjoying my BarBQue Ribs, collard greens, and beans, someone was helping
themselves to my bike locked outside. Imagine my shock and dismay when I came out and found the bike gone, without a trace. I had my cell phone so I called 911, thinking "what a waste of time." The cops arrived in about 5 mins. They wasted no time and told me to get in the car "quick." We sped off with siren blaring. They told me they had
already recovered the bike. It was stopped by the first police car that saw it without me on it. That bike is so conspicuous, and since I ride it everyday, in all weather, all the police of Wilmington know me, even though they don't know my name. While they were talking to the boys who took it the call came from dispatch that it was stolen. When we
arrived at the scene, there was the bike leaning against a wall, and three young teens in handcuffs. My relief was immeasurable. It was almost comical, because they could not ride the bike, since none of them was tall enough to reach the pedals. I checked the lock cable and it wasn't cut or damaged. I thought I locked it, but I guess I didn't. There was no damage to the bike at all. Since I didn't see the culprits take the bike, I can't press charges, but they are charged with possession of stolen property, and a few other things. From now on I'm taking the portable burglar alarm with me and arming it every time I lock up the bike. The gods are smiling on me today. Thanks to all the police in Wilmington DE.

Wow! That's pretty amazing - I guess there really ARE tangible benefits to living in smaller cities than this one!

You are lucky! Had that been a DF you probably wouldn't have recovered it. The alarm sounds like a good idea.

Yes, please let us know about this burglar alarm. I am very interested.

Congrats about your bike. I have two very different looking bikes too, so I hope that if I ever am in the same situation, we can track the perps down quickly as well!

Might? That must not be such a good bike you're riding then. You must not have sentimental attachment to it then...

Can I steal your bike?

I live in the Champaign IL area, and I have Ti Rush that is worth over $5000. It would just kill me to have it stolen. I remember when I was a Kid in Chicago and how I felt when even my cheap bicycle was stolen, so I cannot hardly image how it would feel to have a bent stolen. Thanks for the info about the alarms. I was unaware that they even existed for bicycles.
