So, now recumbent butt requires a powder to alleviate? It must be a new kind of recumbent butt!

Monkey butt aka diaper rash. Doesn't seem to be much of a problem out here in the desert.

BlazingPedals 08-24-09 06:39 PM

1. Don't wear padded shorts.
2. Don't wear cotton.
3. Change your underwear after each ride.

Diaper rash isn't recumbent butt, though. Recumbent butt is when your glutes cry out for mercy from working too hard while having too much weight sitting on them.

Blazing pedals: He didn't title this thread Recumbent Butt. He called it Monkey Butt. Ever seen the red butt on a monkey in the zoo?

My remark was in reference to the reviewer, not the OP. I know what he titled the thread, but the link provided pointed to a product review. Here's an excerpt:

"Every cyclist knows what it is like to have a sore butt. Whether you ride a recumbent as I do or a bike with a wedgie saddle your butt will get sore and irritated, albeit on a different part of the butt. Wedgie saddle riders are more prone to soreness on the inner part of the legs and thighs and recumbent riders on the outer part. Recumbent riders commonly refer to this as recumbent butt..."

So, the reviewer apparently thinks that getting sore "on the outer part" of the butt is 'recumbent butt' and that powder will clear it up. I never considered recumbent butt to be serious enough to warrant powdering it. :innocent:

Recumbent butt

I agree with you. I just started to attack some of the larger, longer hills in my area and when I felt my glutes cry with anguish, the masochistic smile that I had as a mountain bike rider returned. I had missed the pain of cycling since I switched to my recumbent.

I will say that the pain of the climb is worth the joy of the descent.

I switched to a recumbent because I don't get "Monkey Butt" on them.
