Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

Durability of Greenspeed Scorchers?

I am looking at using Greenspeed 40-406 Scorchers on my Greenspeed GTO for touring on pavement/bitumen.

Any comments about their durability?

For touring on my "2-wheeler" I use Schwalbe marathon.. tires.

Thanks for any info.

I've read that scorchers don't hold up well

I'd look at Schwalbe Kojaks

Do a search for this question on www.bentrideronline.com. They have a messageboard with a trike section where you will find many people who tried them. I think they have gone thru some changes since being introduced.

I stick with the stock Mitsubishi Competition Pools that came on my 2001 GS GTO. I ususally get over 5,000 miles on them before wearing out a front set.

We've had them on smart and beautiful wife's trike for about 2,000 with no sign of trouble. I also had a pair that I threw on a Rocket for temporary use about 4,000 miles ago.

I think (Nota Bene, this is only opinion based on limited experience) that the slick surface of the Scorchers does make them especially vulnerable to wet weather punctures.

I run 349 & 406 GS Scorchers on my Bike Friday Tikit and NWT folding bikes...my oldest set is on it's 3rd season - zero flats, fast and comfy tire. I'll be using them again. Tried the Schwalbe Kojaks and didn't like them as much although I am typically a Schwalbe fan.

What don't you like about Kojaks? I tried Scorchers and found they got lots of flats from glass and had lousy wet weather traction. So far the Kojaks have held up better and stick to the road better in the wet.
