Insurance?

Just like the title says, I'm curious if anyone has standalone insurance on their trike.

It has never occurred to me to insure my regular bikes, but if I'm gonna drop 2 grand on a trike I'm gonna be bit nervous on the theft issue.

I haven't checked my renters insurance if it will cover a bike or trike while away parked from home, but it's not likely. Probably only covers theft from the apartment itself.

Check again with your insurance agent. I've had a couple bikes stolen, and they were covered under homeowner's insurance even though they were stolen away from home.

My wife called the home owners insurance and the bike/trike is covered. It's better if you contact your insurance yourself because you never know what is or isn't just because someone else is.

Might be a good time to do a walkabout with a video camera documenting the bike(s), house contents, open drawers and video etc etc then stash the disc with
dupes in a safe deposit box. Also keep your sales ticket somewhere easily found. Lot easier to file a claim when the item is well documented than when not
as many people who lose a house to a fire discover. When everything is ashes and trash documenting what you had is impossible. And read the policy about
the deductibles. My HO recently went from $500 to 1000 deductible unilaterally by State Farm.

Hey, it might sound odd in this context, but there have been two house fires in my extended family in the past year or so, and I feel obligated to say it: Make digital copies of any photos (and documents) you don't want to lose, and store them online or somewhere else away from home. My best friend's kitchen burned down recently, and their photos weren't burned up, but they were exposed to smoke and are now garbage. My aunt and uncle's photos just plain burned up. Then my uncle died 10 days later. You can't get those photos back, and sometimes you can't even take new ones.

depends on deductible and impact of a claim. We used to have an umbrella but dropped it due to cost and now it'd have to be a pretty good bike to justify a claim. It'd hbe worth checking with a bike advocacy group like MassBike here in Massachusetts to see what they suggest.

Can you get your bike insured specifically, with a deductible separate from the rest of the stuff in your house?

A mid-range trike is worth more than my last car was worth. I guess if you saved money instead of paying a premium, it could pay off, but not if your bike is stolen within a couple of years.
