Thousands of bikes - 3 recumbents
Sunday Streets in San Francisco was sort of a small glimpse of recumbent popularity I guess. 1 swb, 1 trike, 1 velomobile. I like being different, hearing "look at THAT! Cool!" but even in a big city like SF; I am starting to wonder whether or not I look like some sort of freak!
Perfect weather, ideal event for me. When I recalled the day I wondered about where the recumbent industry is going.

Well, I don't think SF would be a bent mecca with the hills, recumbents are just way harder on those hills, not to mention the city is probably crazy to ride in with anything period.

In comparison - our town 75 miles south of SF was the finish of a cross-country recumbent ride in 2001 and 2002. That event no longer comes here. Each time had at least 40 recumbents. SF had thousands of people. Much different atmosphere nowadays.

1 day event (out of 4 annually) with the entire area closed to cars; almost the entire Golden Gate Park and much of the great highway was Car-Free. The highway is almost on the beach and all level. 4 different locations in San Francisco- 2 more times this year. I flew through stop signs with no traffic in the park, wove through any lane I wanted on Highway 1.
