Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

Fairing + lights = ??

For those who use fairings, and if you ride at night, how did you arrive at your lighting set-up?

After much experimentation on my Easy Racer bikes (Tour Easy then Gold Rush), I have ended up with a SON generator hub and a Lumotec IQ Cyo headlight on a Terracycle mount. This is the Cadillac of lighting systems, but it truly lights up the road and it will never need to be recharged and doesn't slow you down.

No matter what you choose, you want the headlight to be in front of the fairing. Mounting it behind the fairing will create reflections and backscatter that will ruin your night vision.

Yeah, I imagined even a helmet mounted light would cause some glare. Not a priority project, just a long term goal.

There were more than a couple of interesting combinations of fairings and lights at last weekend's Recumbent Retreat:
