ride time/distance?

Now that I've got a few days of riding my new Sun Tour Easy under my belt, I'm wondering how the lack of physical discomfort will affect my time in the saddle vs on a df. After about 5/6 hour on the loaded df, I'd call it a day so as to not be too exhausted by pedaling and physical stress.

For you guys into long distance riding on bents, what sorta saddle time do you usually average/day? If you switched from dfs, did you noticed a change in pedaling time and stress level riding a bent? In other words, can I expect longer distances/day on the bent vs the df? I do think I'm a tad faster on the bent, but haven't confirmed this.

'Bents haven't allowed me increase my typical daily / weekly milage, because those things are constrained by available time between work, life, family obligations, not my level comfort/discomfort on the bike.

However...'bents have allowed me to get involved in rando and ultraraces. I could never have imagined doing a double century (or longer) on a DF (just simply wouldn't do it....), but I have done several of them now on my 'bents (w/ the longest so far being 630K) with a total lack of pain in my shoulders, neck, and butt like I used to get on the DF.

So yeah, you may find that your definition of what constitutes a 'long ride' start to change. :)

On DF's I thought a 30 mile ride was long. On bents that's just a good beginning.

OK. It's a day later. I think I've answered my own question.

After 80 miles in perfect fall weather, flats and hills the answer is: 1 mph faster, higher spin rate. As there were no comfort issues, I'll be planning on 65 mile days vs 50 on the df for loaded touring. I'm stoked!

Me too. Did 23 miles on the Strada yesterday, the previous longest ride being 16 miles. I bet I could be ready to do a flat century in a month or two, and I'm WAY out of shape.

As for speed, well, I make no claims.

Unlike some of the rest of us: I was cruising along in the upper 20's today.

Did I mention that the wind was blowing?

Did I mention that there may have been a tailwind?

It couldn't have been a tailwind; you were just having a great day. :)
