Recument events in northeast?

I was wondering if anyone knew of any recumbent rallys, or other organized recumbent events? My son is in his early teens and rides a KMX tadpole recumbent due to a balance problem (medical). We do a lot of bike path rides and our family goes to a lot of mountain bike races; but we'd like to find something organized around recumbents where he could take part and not be the only one on a "weird" bike. We live in New England and would prefer something close to home. I'm not aware of anything in this region but that may just be my lack of awareness. (Maybe I need to start something around here??) Any thoughts?

This is a link to a local group of Recumbent enthusiasts.

The annual Rally is usually the weekend after Father's Day. It's an un-supported event (no sag wagon). It often attracts a group of 30+ riders from New York, Ontario Canada, and Pennsylvania.

It consists of a short loop of approx. 40 miles and a long loop of about 80 miles. The short loop starts and ends at the Port of Rochester and the long loop starts and ends at Hamlin Beach State Park where camping is available.

The ride is a mix of two-lane country roads, Multi use bike paths, and a few city streets with mild weekend traffic.

I've participated in this rally twice and enjoyed the ride and the companionship very much.

Here is a link to the event listing on Bentrideronline. Sometimes the listings are small group get-togethers and others are for major rallys. I'd suggest going to it occasionally and seeing if anything pops up for your general area. Also check out Bicycleman who is a bentrider sponsor and whose website has a link at the top of every page in the header. It's a major recumbent store in Alfred NY and I would bet that they have at least one annual rally.

Great recumbent event out of State College PA but on by RBR recumbent shop in mid-June, quiet roads, no big climbs, beautiful scenery, great group: http://rbr.info/community/rbr-rally.html

RARE event also is great, I've done it a few times, love the trails in Rochester and the camping at Hamlin Beach SP. The past couple years they've also had a century loop, they add to the 80 mile route a loop through Irondequoit (I think that's what it's called).

There is a century ride in Alfred NY that is promoted by Bicycleman, it's usually in late September, about 3500 ft of climbing and pretty bent friendly, I've done that one a couple of times. It's officially sponsored by Habitat for Humanity at the college in Alfred.

I'll just throw this out there, though it's kind of far from VT:

We have a citizens class bike race in Hamburg, PA called the Dutch Country. You can check out more information here. It's not specifically FOR recumbents, but they are more than welcome. Last year we even had a hand cyclist. In the past two years I've competed on a delta trike and a crank forward bike. This year I plan to race on tadpole trike. It's a very family friendly, low cost event. Plus there are some beautiful trails nearby that a bunch of us go and ride after the races. I help organize the events, so you can drop me a line if you would like additional information.
