5 Things to love about recumbents
 

1-Children saying as you pass , "Mom, Dad, look at that! Can I get one?"
2-Not feeling numbness in the "nether" regions after a long ride.
3-Since few people are familiar with them, you can add any accessory and it looks fine ( fenders, multiple blinkies, kickstand, fairing, etc.)
4-The faster you go, the more stable it is (to a point, anyway)
5-My EasyRacer Sport Ltd looks like the Schwinn Stingray I had when I was ten years old (if the Stingray lost its 2" slick, banana seat, sissy bar and was stretched out just a bit)

what is a recumbent?

A recumbent is a bike where the rider sits on a nice large comfy seat with a backrest, in a reclined position. Unlesss the recumbent is a "highracer" the seat is very low to the ground, about 2 feet or so. The pedals are higher than on a normal diamond frame bike. They enjoy an aerodynamic advantage over most diamond frame bikes. Downhill they are a veritable street luge. They cost more and are perhaps somewhat heavier than a diamond frame bike. They are very comfortable and excellent for long rides and touring. They are fun and addicting. The most noted feature of a recumbent "pilot" is the big toothy grin at the end of a long ride. I went 'bent this spring and have not been on my road bike since.

Thanks for the info. I have seen a few around Kansas City, and just figured they were just some eccentrics. (just kidding)

1) Riding past a school at end of day and having 100 kids ROFL at you...attention.
2) Riding in the rain and barely getting wet...position.
3) Riding on a yellow bike and no one notices the color...its a bent!
4) Meeting and talking to people you normally would not have...
5) Finding a very slight downhill and building BIG SPEED!!!

1. You will remain healthy and strong if you ride a recumbent every day
2. There is no bike like a recumbent if you like comfort and speed.
3. Once you have started riding one you will never stop ever. You might even abandon your upright bike.
4. The multiplicity of recumbents of various kind is so great that there is a recumbent for everyone.
5. The most exciting journey I have ever made was on a recumbent

Specifically lowracers, but may apply in varying degrees to other bents:
1. breathtaking downhill speeds
2. spanking the club hammers
3. rollers
4. "Headwind? I hadn't noticed."
5. go kart sensation in curves

1. You won't fall over if you just put your feet down.
2. Looking ahead of you with the greatest of ease.

5. What pain?

1. No wrist pain
2. No Back Pain
3. No Butt Pain
4. Backing it up the pedal's don't hit the kickstand (LWB)
5. I actually ride it because of 1-3

If they only didn't look to extraordinarily nerdy.... :eek:

1. You don't have to wear special cycling clothes/shoes.
2. You can carry LOTS of stuff..they load well for long rides.
3. They are comfortable!
4. They are FUN!
5. They are just darn COOL looking!

1. Riding farther than I ever thought would be possible again.
2. No more carpal tunnel nerve damage.
3. No more complaining tailbone.
4. No balance issue on the trike during long climbs.
5. No more staring at the ground while I ride.

A nerdy Swede, I don't believe it. My people came to the US from Sweden in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
