My biggest problem is numb hands. I found that I could actually get quite comfortable on aerobars, but then I was really just staring at the front wheel (and if I actually wanted to see where I was going, my neck got quite sore). For taking in the scenery, I don't see how you can beat being 'bent.

I'd go with a HP Velotechnik for its dual suspension.. , maybe their Grasshopper for the 20" wheels on both ends
and its folding frame..
Rohloff hub + chain tensioner is up off the ground on a 20" wheel,
where the long cage of an MTB derailleur to get a similar low ratio, IMO, is closer than ideal..

For loaded touring I would want the same size tires front & rear if possible. Makes on-the-road replacements easier to find. In a SWB high racer, I like the Bacchetta Giro26 which will run everything from 559, to 650c to 700c wheels... In a LWB I would probably take a Rans Stratus or Xstream. For USS, I'd lust after a Longbikes, maybe with a better seat?

I would be afraid of touring on a Tadpole Unless I had at least two very bright flags above me and some kind of flashing light/strobe. I have come up on them in traffic and they were well below the average line of sight, half what a two wheel bent was or 1/3'rd a DF bike n rider height..... Just sayin..

I do ride my trike with two dayglo orange flags. They are there for legal protection as much as they are there for safety. They would go a long way to ward off the claim "I just didnt see him"!!!!

I have a flag so I can be seen over other cars, but it really doesn't do much in the country. I did add a hi-viz helmet to the mix though, since my shirts can't really be seen much.
