it's the same thing as riding with your hands on the flats of your (newly acquired, as I understand) drop bars. it takes surprisingly little effort to turn, you can do it with just one hand on your stem, or no with hands if you're slick like that. i find the advantage of wide bars to be the wider arm-base, rather than the added torque. wider base means easier balance, or rather, greater margin of error after your fourth can of sparks.

Just checked the tops of my DBX's bars, where the brake levers are. These other bikes had muchnarrower bars. The one I saw Sun in Georgetown was literally close to half the width of my drops.

yeah, at this point it's pretty much a pissing contest. your coolness is inversely proportional to the width of your bars.

I think I am going to ride by the park. Its on my way home. If anyone wants to hang if we don't ride see me then. PS if its raining I will not wait at the park long, so thats that.

Sure..the bars make it thru but yer 18" wide shoulders don't.
    12" bars = clownbike.

btw: real NYC messangers used to ride with bars that were only as wide as their fists. for sneaking between buses. Narrow bars kill climbing and sprinting leverage.

The fact that we missed out on Pho last night springs an idea of a challenge.

    "A Bridge Too Pho"
We meet somewhere in DC, Hains, Sherwood, whatever.
The ride must cross 3 of the 4 bridges that are bikable
As we experienced, must get to Pho 75 well before 8PM
(7:55 was not early enough, those commie bastards)
If we don't get in, the last guy to show up at the meeting point gets harrassed until the next run.
If you are not having any fun, it's all your fault

Inquiring minds wanted to know last night so here's a meta-study of internet resources. Turns out Dyna was close to being right.

    From Wikipedia
The word 'pinko' likely has its origins in the relations between the colors pink and red. Since pink is a lighter shade of red, the color most associated with communism, pink could be thought of as a "lighter form of communism" practiced by mere supporters of Marxism or socialism as opposed to card-carrying communists
    From Urbandictionary
    Lukewarm communist
    From The American Heritage Dictionary
A person who holds moderately leftist political views; a pink.
    From Wordnet 2.0
emotionally charged terms used to refer to extreme radicals or revolutionaries
