This a little off-topic, but I must do my duty as a Screaming Eagle. DC United's arch rivals the New York Red Bulls (they used to be called the Metrostars, but were bought by Red Bull energy drink and subsequently renamed) is providing free buses to come down to our home opener against them on April 2. This means we as DC residents must show that we have a superior fan presence. Please consider coming to the game, RFK is merto accessable and has bike racks near the press parking lot.

This is isn't about being a soccer fan, it's about being a DC fan. Thank you for your time.

typing one handed while holding a bag of ice to my lower lip, which is the size of a potato...teeth are ok, says el dentist, but iago is finito...frame buckled in two places after colliding with a car in washington circle after cabbie cut us off. amazingly, all else on bike is perfercto, as is all else on me. so sad. i think he deserves a proper burial...

as they say in france, le bummer.

update: i had the choice of swerving left and risking major injury, swerving right and getting squished between a cabbie and this car, or just staying straight and sucking it up full force into the trunk of the car that stopped ahead of me. i chose the latter, and i kissed the trunk pretty hard (i had a helmet on, of course). Overall, i'd say i'm ok with the results of my decision. i know it sounds trite, but it could have been WAY worse.

'Twas, alas, the '73 gios torino that i had spraypainted blue. Iago was his name. And he lived a good life. He died happy, doing his thing, zipping along. Funeral and internment plans to be announced shortly. Bereavement services available for all mourning riders.

*I may donate Iago's body to science...if anyone has, say, S&S couplers and a front half of a bike, this would be an aweome rear triangle to add to it...in that respect, Iago would live on...

Geoff, Ryan and I will have a small vigil for Iago... Ryan didn't know him, but he is strongly rooted in the world of cycling. We will pay our respects. Be sure to swing us by his grave site next time we ride with the Pirates... BTW everyone should go to *www.myspace.com/geranimo1flight*... its my myspace. and it has a picture of the coolest people alive you should check it out.

That's a funny story. so the we flagged over a cop car and the driver of the car i slammed into asked me if i wanted to file a report, to which i responded first by spitting out blood and they by mumbling yes. i should admit my intent, though: i wanted documentation, but i also wanted to intimidate ther driver such that she would feel guilty and offer to rescue Iago from permanent retirement. This did not work, though, as I'll explain. so cop rolls up, says to me, you know, if i file this report, you'll get a ticket? i say, what are you tallking about? he says, well you hit her from behind, so it's your fault. and i'm like, look, i just want the report. and he's like, i'll do it, but you'll get a ticket. so i say F it. he says can't do that. i say, friggin F it. he sayd, ok, fine, no report.

why was this ok with me? because the pinche cabbie who cut us both off had already gotten away...he was the dude i wanted to file a report with, but wham, he was outa there before i had a chance to disconnect my face from the trunk.

so, for the record, i wanted justice, or at least some form of documentation of justice, but our justice system is such puta that i just said screw it. i mean, after all, i have 3 other bikes.

i've also upgraded from ice in a bag to a frozen burrito pressed directly against my now thumb-size purple lip. goddamn puta madre chinga mierda pendejo...

J5 - sorry about the bike, glad to hear you're ok. Did you at least put a good dent in the car?

I hate the cabbies around here. I'm not sure why they drive the way they do. Either they think they need to be worse then the other drivers to scare them off,or they figure noone else is following the rules, why should they.

Chimbly - that sucks. I feel your pain. Reminds me of when my Cannondale fell over in the rack.
