Alleycat Concepts
I'd like to hear some ideas you all have had, and particularly manifested (no pun intended), in alleycat races. There are so many opportunities to get creative as far as 'cats go, and it's rad to be continually surprised by what people think up. Beyond the usual "Pound a Sparks", what are some crazy ideas/tasks/stops/etc. you've experienced or organized?
I'm soon putting on a "Bicycle Thief" race. The manifest will include five descriptions of people (ex. "tall woman with dark hair and sparkled shirt riding a yellow track bike"), all of whom will be riding aimlessly around a 20-block quadrant (maybe smaller?) of the city. You've gotta find each "thief", and upon doing so, recieve a specific card. The "thieves" can attempt evasion if they spot you! Once you have all five cards, haul ass to the local watering hole. The end! Should be pretty fun...

I make people do math or sketch railings or whatnot. A little more straightforward than the 'Thieves' concept, though I may steal that for one of my later races. I love it.

We've got a Tour de Bar here which sounds kind of like what you're looking at. Ride takes off from a hilltop in the city at 10 pm - it's on and off road, packed full of parking garages, rides through parks, through spiraling walkways of local colleges, etc. ---- with stops at our local watering holes. I'm in a bicycle club (roadie) and also ride in an Urban Assault group (mtb) where it's mostly training exercises and pushing yourself on your riding --- but I have to say TdB is great fun!
Plus we have theme rides. Super Hero night etc.

this is so weird. I've been trying to work out the logistics of a race almost exactly like the thieves one except i didn't have that theme...i was just thinking it'd be like all of the "thieves" dressed up the same and then they had to be caught and whoever caught the most won the race...
i like the where's waldo one though...what do yall think of this...? each checkpoint has a where's waldo book and you have to spot waldo before you can leave. and maybe at the beginning have everyone lineup where they can see a landscape in which you have a real life waldo standing out there somewhere. you don't get the location of the first checkpoint till you get to him.
other idea i've been having is a sprints/race combo...figure out a few spots in town that you can have sprints at. make those the checkpoints and then when people get to them they have to do a one lap/one sprint head to head race. winner gets to leave to the next checkpoint. loser stays for 30 seconds.
tell me what you think please...
