I'm putting on an alleycat/scavenger hunt Thanksgiving Saturday (October 10th) at 2PM and everyone is welcome to come ride. I've got Bikes On Wheels confirmed to do some prizes and I'm talking to a couple other people as well who might be interested in sponsorship. Any of you guys interested in helping out by running a checkpoint?

Anyone else going to see butthole surfers? One more week!

Belt drives on motorcycles suck too .. chain maintenance on a motorcycle isn't a pain in the butt unless you're really lazy.

I missed the AG part but the doc. ("Pedal Power") was kinda cute. It lost some credibility by claiming that segregated bike lanes are safe and the way to go (ahem while they where saying that, they were also showing footage of such a lane in NY: thing is the cyclist came close to being right-hooked by a truck!, and a cab later on). The interview with the wining motorist that saw 5min added to his commute and also concerned about killing a cyclist because they are reckless was funny too.

All I said was I could see people wanting it on it, because the chains are heavy and the lube is thick/messy. Only a comparison.

If I had a motorcycle it would have a chain on it, because that huge chain is way more badass looking.

Mixed morning for me. Amsterdam signed on to sponsor my event as well, so I can offer free beer and barbecue after the race. On the down side, I did the low speed tip over while clipped in this morning in front of a dozen people or so. I think I couldn't decide between clipping out or pushing down on the pedal to try and stabilize myself, so I did neither and just hit pavement.

Since carbon became "The Next Big Thing" I have lost count of the # of busted frames I have seen. One guy has gone thru 2 of the same model in 2 years. Great for bike companies....bad for the consumer.

As our team motto says "Friends don't let friends ride carbon!"

And steel doesn't break...I broke more steel frames than anything else. Not cheap steel, Columbus SL and SLX. Since then it has been 3 aluminum bikes (Spec M2 Pro, Giant TCR, and Pinarello FP2) and many carbon bikes (Giant TCR composite, Look 585, Look 595, Pinarello Prince, Time VXRS Ulteam) with no issues.

Are team motto is friends don't let friends ride a cheap P.O.S..

Ergo grips, while lacking any coolness, are super comfy.

posting from looted wifi at new place on Jones. I am an east-ender now...

Perhaps you are due to lose a few pounds then? Fat guys bust bikes.

Oh JIT....you are so predictable. Go back under your rock.

+1. I put on a set for Crank the Shield and loved them. Even after 75km of the gnarliest mtn biking I never got sore or numb hands.

I_bRAD 09-26-09 09:03 AM

I've thought about trying out the ergo grips but I can't bring myself to give up my ourys!

A little bird told me someone has been going into the Don with a bobcat and turning everything into level doubletrack... Does anyone know if this is true?

iherald 09-26-09 09:31 AM

I'm not sure about double track, but I will say I don't love what's happened to the don over the last two months. Some of the fun and a little technical stuff has given way to tonnes of gravel.

I have used nothing but Ourys for years. Try the Ergon's...you will not be disappointed.

And the Don rumours are true....at least on the Ridge...lets just hope they don't mess with P.A./Sky Pilot/etc.

I ordered up yer rim and hub for the SS wheel. Maybe stop by the Bike Joint when you have a chance and pay the good gentlemen there.
