ha ha...man so wack...and of course did it work? no...they battled each other and then when the sore loser got pissed off... gunshots.

edit: Beat Street was my all time fav around that time...

Had a spoke break on my road bike rear wheel yesterday and it's way out of true, and with the rim already having an out-of-round perma-problem, it's time to replace.

In the meantime - I want to have the bike rideable as an SS so my sister can ride around without having to ride fixed - where/what can I expect from local shops for a 16-18T freewheel?

My ACS was 30 bucks at Urbane. Worked decent enough until the snow and salt made it die and rust out

Shimano's used to be that price, this year the cost has nearly doubled. GG. Oh yeah, the veloflex pave's - don't get them unless you're racing or doing really fast rides. They ride like tubulars, ultrafast but at the expense of all round durability. You don't get the high tpi/speed for nothing. They are one of the flimsiest tyres on the face of the planet.

Really *really* fast though.

Keith, can I borrow your for-realsies 1x9 setup for the race in London this weekend? My ghetto 1x6 setup has been interesting but I'd like to try the real deal on the ski hill there. Plus, I've never ridden SRAM before and I need to sort out what brand/group I'm going with for the Niner build.

Let me know if that's okay please.

Also, After this weekend I'll be re-singlespeed-ifying the Jamis so Keith and Chris P. you can expect your parts to get dropped off - thanks for the loaners!

Aww man, bike repair fail.

I thought my Crank Brothers pedals were dying (again), so instead of paying for another rebuild kit I bought some cleats for my Time ATACs. I installed those on my shoes, but the noise in my bike is still there! Damnit! It's the ****-ass Truvativ bottom bracket that's done. BTW, this isn't a tick, but a horrible crunching "exploded bearings" sound that's basically exactly what a blown-up CB pedal sounds like.

Grr ...

i would think almost any shop

i know bikes on wheels has them (dt comp), i'm sure cycle solutions, urbane and others do too

Is there a huge jump in quality between SRAM branded stuff and Truvativ branded? Anthony's SRAM-equipped Pedal Force looks so nice, but everyone I talk to about Truvativ says its junk. Maybe its just the really low end truvativ?

Mike, if you need, I have some slightly used 105 BSA cups at home that you can borrow/buy.

Speaking of BB issues: two of my bikes have nasty BB sounds. Both the Major Jake and my CAAD9 creak like mofos when I pedal out of the saddle. The Major uses FSA cups, while the CAAD is Ultra-Torque. Really, I never had recurring issues like this when I was using square tapper BBs. Now that I think about it, having the BB bearings outside the BB shell might be a bad idea, because you haven't got the extra support of a BB shell supporting loads on the bearings, just that lip of threads that go into the BB shell.

^^ Just to add to that thought: maybe bearing load support is why BB30 and press-fit cups are becoming popular? I never really understood what was wrong with square tapper to begin with. Lots of people complain about flex, but I'm sure most of those complains are either baseless or based on experience with really cheap BBs. I wonder how a Record or Phil stainless BB would fair in comparison to most outboard stuff?

not a big fan of the sram/truvativ standard compared to shimano/campy outboard stuff, the installation isn't as precise and the bearings have to be broken in because of preloading ... the shimano cups have little to no drag right after installation, sram/truvativ has a ton of drag that you have to work off

can't really comment about durability on the sram cups over truvativ since i've only been running the sram cups for a few weeks, but i imagine there is a decent difference between the sram team bb and truvativ, at least i hope so because i had bad luck with the truvativ bb's on my bianchi

i also get bad sounds on my outboard bearings, on all 3 bikes i've had with them i've had that sound, it was easy to solve on the others by re-installing the bottom bracket cups, but i think maybe i need to get the bb faced on the pedal force

i definitely have a big preferance of outboard over square taper, i've never had a high end square taper bb but i just really like the simplicity of the whole thing, much easier to maintain. And the stiffness is very noticable. bb30 looks good, just takes that simplicity to another level, probably a little stiffer and definitely lighter, nothing drastic.
