Igor pleads guilty. "He must now serve an additional four months in jail on top of the time he has already spent in pretrial custody. The total sentence was 30 months."

Nice re: the Leadville 100 film.

Might get some of the glove-versions of those Pyze, as I need something to replace my wool gloves that are a bit too cold once it gets below 0, and my ski gloves are overkill until it gets stupid-cold (like in that horrific wind last week!)

Not been bike commuting the past couple of weeks and honestly I'm enjoying the break (started with some sickness/recovery, now I'm just back from being out of town so I have to get back into the groove).

Got some new (read: cheap/on sale) shoes for winter (read: disposable regular season shoes) so I'll probably break those out tomorrow.

I found a great alternative commute route, too. From Queen/Roncesvalles to Sheppard/Leslie I used to take Lansdowne->Dupont->Avenue Rd->Kilbarry->Lascelles (Park) -> Chaplin -> Duplex -> Fairlawn -> Yonge ->Sheppard, which is a fine route excepting the awful hill down and then up again at Yonge/York Mills-401.

My alternative is skipping Yonge totally and only going up as far as Montgomery (Broadway) on Duplex and then across to Bayview, then take that north. I've done the reverse trip this way and it was pretty decent.

It's been averaging about an hour/1:15 depending on wind/tiredness on the old route so I guess I'll see how it goes.

Been kind of non-bikey the past few weeks, and it feels kinda wrong .. almost treacherous. I guess I should jump back on

edit: Orin - cool name! Welcome to the world!

Damn near obliterated a jay walker today. She just walked right in front of me on Danforth as I'm hauling ass seriously fast, and since I didn't want to risk going around her and her changing her mind and going the other way and taking us both out, I grabbed the brakes and yelled "HEADS UUUUUP!!!!@#" at her. She got so freaked so did this bizzare kind of jump where her legs got all tangled up and came crashing down to the road. I asked if she was ok, she was still on the road blubbering and crying like crazy. I helped her get up, walked her to the curb (she couldn't even stand she was so freaked out, she was putting alot of weight on my bike). I offered her my cell phone to call someone if she needed, and a friendly pedestrian offered to take her into the Second Cup to sit down. As I feel I've done everything a decent human being should do for someone who nearly caused an accident out of blatant stupidity, I rode off home, and yes... I kind of laughed a little. I wouldn't be laughing if she got hurt (even if it had been her fault), but honestly, the whole thing was pretty hilarious.

^on foot... on foot... nope don't get it^

Good one Twitcho, you did indeed do more than most would have. You suffered that fool very well, went above and beyond. I'm hoping due to how freaked she got that'll be the last blind sidewalk step she ever makes. I'm all for jaywalking but holy crap some folks can be downright suicidally disengaged when they step into traffic, it'll never fail to baffle me. I had a herdo'ped just streaming across Yonge at that weird area just north of Front street yesterday. I think there is a subway exit from Union on the west side and the building on the east side contains M2, the ad agency. Due to the cars being stopped, it's treated like there is a crosswalk with a green light. Along I come on the yellow line as the Front street intersection is the right turn of death, I scream NOT A CROSSWALK as I carve through them. One coffee dropped, no freak outs but some audible breath intake and stifled screams. It's worse than any intersection I've encountered in the core. Your lemur, I hope, is counting her blessings.

I'd get the mitts. I have both and the gloves are good, but the mitts are warmer and pretty dexterous.

Noted!

Ordered a new (cheap) fork for my IRO yesterday... I want to mount a brake on it as my commute kinda scares me with the big downhills and potential for ice/snow fun and no brake. Yay!

So confession - I've hit three pedestrians and had about two close calls. I dunno if it's coincidence, but every one was a woman. Maybe they just don't look before stepping out into the street? Who knows.

I'm really starting to enjoy my cross bike brake squeal. It keeps fools on their toes.

For some reason they REALLY seem to like watching the traffic in the opposite lanes than the ones they are stepping into. I'm all for looking ahead, but when I jaywalk and I see I can make it across then dbl check... then pay close attention to the immediate danger zone ..being the lane I'm about to step on, as I get closer to the center of the road I will look at the next direction of danger ONLY afte rI've cleared the lanes I'm in. It completely baffles me how someone can step into the roadway looking in the direction the closest traffic is heading.

I almost hit a lady on a side street today. she crossed about 15 feet before the corner, never looked back once and had on a hood and an ipod. When I dinged my bell as I got close to her she started looking at the ground like she dropped change. I knew she was going to go without looking, but if it had been darker and a car coming, lights out to her.

Now the guy who decided to jump out and scare me by yelling boo (seriously, boo?? come on guy) should have made sure that a) I was going to fast to slow down and b) been out of arms length when I reached out and gave him the old b!tch slap upside the head. When I'm riding on Danfoth at 6pm trying to startle a grumpy cyclist isn't too smart.

This is painfully awesome, haha.

I've been thinking that the holiday season seems to be making everybody noticeably stupider. This hypothesis was confirmed by the mini school bus that out of nowhere decided to make a right hand turn from the left lane this morning, without signaling or even looking to make sure there wasn't a cyclist directly in their path. I dodged it (thankfully) but wow it was close and pretty damn sudden. I'm getting worried that we're heading towards some kind of terminal velocity of stupidity on the 24th or something, every day leading up to christmas just seems more and more insane.
