I saw the bearded dude twice while I was riding around on Sunday. :)

What's the deal with the alleycats now? I did one years ago, and it was set up a race from checkpoint to checkpoint, and no one knows the route at the start of the race. People were running all different kinds of bikes, geared and fixed-and the guy who won was on a rigid MTB with slicks. It was fun.

darkmother 03-14-06 04:20 PM

Mmmmm.... green ball of congealed beer.....

jeremywhitehorn 03-14-06 04:22 PM

[QUOTE=Shiznaz]Not to gross anyone out, but when I was in first year university in residence we took a big group out to the james joyce for saint pattie's day. People drank much too much and I had to pretty much carry two girls back to the residence building, but not before they both threw up on the street. Just taking a quick glance at the vomit you could see a golf ball sized congealed lump of green goo in each. ******** disgusting and I'm never drinking green beer again. It congeals into a gross stomach ball that I don't like to think about.
On another note: anyone up for the alleycat happening on saturday? I'd like to do it but I don't wanna go alone!QUOTE]

wha? alley cat this saturday? more info please!

it could have been worse; you could have been at the brunswick house.

Sr20det: But I'm not old enough to drink.

Cavernmech: Tell that to this beer, son. *pass*

Eyefloater: ... and that's when Sr20det called Lance a punk ***** and knocked out a cop. It was great. :)

They are still pretty much the same. It really does depend on who is throwing the race and what format ie: checkpoint, scavenger hunt etc.

Modern Alleycats as they are known started right here in good ole Toronto. The "Alley Cats" were a bunch of Jet Fuel guys racing aroung parking lots in the middle of the night. Thus the term "Alley Cat" was born. Johnny still gets a little hot if anyone in Toronto uses the term alley cats but for the most part it has become a worldwide term for an urban/city race, usually organized by messengers.
If you want to win you have to be willing to forgo any traffic laws and ride around like a freak. But just riding it and finishing is a blast and I would recommend them to anyone. I have never had a bad time at an alleycat race. 5 time alleycat winner and Viceroy of the Toronto Underground Historical Society out!

Shiznaz 03-14-06 07:24 PM

I'm the self proclaimed Super-President, Chancellor and Right Honorable Arch-Duke of my surrounding neighbourhood and I have got at least 50 people to recognize me as so during our keg parties. So there!

somnambulant 03-14-06 07:38 PM

My Mom says I'm cool.

32flavours 03-14-06 07:41 PM

So what's the deal with this St. Paddy's ride? Meeting place? Ending beery place?

somnambulant 03-14-06 07:49 PM

no idea.. I'm always making plans. I'm hoping some day someone else steps up to the plate. :)

I might have to bail actually, but I'm not sure yet. Waiting for a friend to get back to me.

If it's the one I'm thinking of it's behind the buildings on Yonge (West of Yonge), between Richmond and Adelaide. (I think)

Check down the page for "Biking on a velodrome". Its a discovery channel daily planet segment they aired last night about the new Forest City Velodrome in London, Ontario. It features beginners and goes over their 'learn to ride' program. Its interesting but its no Lucas Brunelle! Makes me want to get out to the velodrome even more!
