ps. I have several family members living in Calgary (my Dad is from out West), so I just emailed my cousin to see if she has heard anything about Charlie in the media. I'll let you all know if I find any more out.

edit: she's a fast responder! Apparently she was back home in SK for the long weekend, so wasn't around to see/hear any news. She said if/when she hears anything she'll let me know.

My spirit will be there. My body will be getting punished by the rocks of Elliot Lake. Be safe guys...literally and figuratively.

Speaking of which, I have neither the knowledge nor the produce to help induce safety. Perhaps one of you *cough* botanists could chime in so that we don't wind up err.. unprepared?

I'm down for the ride and I'm sure I can scrounge up something as I'm sure some others can. If anyone is having problems they can feel free to call/email me.

Saw the aftermath of a crash at college and yonge today looked nasty.

I'm still shocked.

I've really been devastated by the tragic waste of this. Charlie and I weren't close friends, just acquaintances through the forum. But he was a good guy for whom life was an adventure and he was living the adventure. He's who I wished I'd been when I was his age. I'm feeling pretty hollow right now.

I know spots like where he was killed. There's dick all there. For a guy to ride in Toronto, ride from Van to LA and coming back to Toronto get hit at a spot like that....

There's three black rings on my bike right now. And I really wish they weren't there.

This is all I've been able to dig up so far media wise

from 660AM calgary

A deadly crash between a car and a cyclist just west of Brooks closed the eastbound lanes of the Trans Canada early Saturday afternoon.

Police are not saying much, but it appears the cyclist was killed when he was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 36.

One caller to the 660 newsroom, who witnessed the crash, says the vehicle drifted onto the shoulder before striking the cyclist.

The crash created traffic headaches for both directions of travel as the westbound lanes were converted into a two way traffic set-up.

I think I'm going to write a "Lives Lived" for the G&M on charlie. If anyone wants to think about some of their best memories and write them down or just have a few words to say I'll be taking notes on sunday. Its the least I can do, and if I do nothing I might go nuts.

PS: Op that's cool if your in town this friday/weekend call me.

everything that i've been thinking has been said so eloquently already.

it really is amazing to read how everyone is pulling together, so this loss will not be in vain.

i can't get the image of charlie's goofy grin and busted lip at the freaky friday ride; he had bailed in rosedale, and then we joined forces at queen's park with chris until we got split up in the last 5 minutes.

whaddaguy.

PBK still has free shipping, and I think the deals that Cavit ordered are still on sale.

I don't want to interrupt and conversations about Charlie, but I was just wondering if any of you would be in Ottawa for the polo tourney in September?

If so, where are you guys going to stay?

We have between 4 and 6 coming up from DC.

So sorry to hear about the loss Toronto had. He seemed like a super nice guy. Very sad.

Yeah, Wes. That was me, I sent my order in already as I didn't know when the TDF deal would end.

Compared to DC its hard to call it a capital but there is a far smaller chance of being shot. I'll be in the big O for the tourney (I'm pretty sure) but I'm crashing at my parents. What kind of accommodations are you guys looking for?

Hey everyone, I'm back a day early from my tour... the news about Charlie coupled with some crippling humidity and headwinds caused us to just call it quits and get a friend to come pick us up in Port Hope.

There's not much left to say, except that it's nice to see at least that people are pulling together in the face of this awful news. Charlie definitely made an impact on all of us, whether he realized it or not. RIP Charlie.

I use conti gatorskins on my road bike. I think they're a good balance between durability, weight, performance, and price. I'd buy them again, fwiw.

Edit: Haven't tried the gp4000s.

I didn't know Shiz/Charlie, but I was really moved when I got this news from a fellow To biker... I assume it's cool if I tag along if I can (chances are I'll have a trailer + child with me, not so hip with a fixie crowd I know )

I'll be there for at least part of Sunday's meet-up. We've got family (avec kids) staying over on Saturday so I'll either cut out before or after breakfast.
